This infographic is based off a new Australian study which showed an alarming 75% of infants aged 6-12 months (n = 286) are not meeting daily iron requirements. The study was part of the Australian Feeding Infants and Toddlers Study (OzFITS) and recently published in The Journal of Nutrition. Dietary modelling work carried out by the OzFITS research team has shown that the 75% inadequacy could be decreased to only 5% of infants if one serve of iron-fortified infant cereals was consumed daily, making iron-fortified infant cereals an effective and practical option to reduce the prevalence of iron inadequacy.
