The inevitable rise of human population is expected to increase the demand for food which may eventually require consideration of alternative strategies toward food sustainability, nutrition, and security. This approach may necessitate reduced consumption of meat and fish products to which plant-based analogs are a promising alternative. However, the nutritional quality, physical functionality, and sensory properties of plant proteins are not comparable to meat and fish proteins. Cellular agriculture is a potential alternative to conventional farming methods that may address this challenge. However, many factors factors must be considered for successful systems integration of cellular agriculture processes and biomanufacturing needs.
